FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW LONG DOES A THERAPY SESSION TAKE?
A standard therapy session is about 50-minutes long. This is designed to allow for enough time for you to explore your goals, discuss what is going well, and dive into what feels important to discuss. You do not need to attend therapy with an agenda or checklist; however, you are welcome to bring that to the table. I am able to help clients identify their goals and explore necessary topics without a client-provided agenda for each session. The sessions are 50 minutes to allow time for documentation between sessions.

HOW LONG WILL THE THERAPY PROCESS TAKE?
The time someone spends in therapy is very individualized. Most people looking to make a change in their lives seek therapy services for 6-12 months. It takes about two months of bi-weekly sessions to thoroughly get to know a client and identify their challenges. The process might take less time if the client is meeting weekly. Although we set goals in therapy, it is important the process does not feel rushed. You are not being graded in therapy, so it's important to understand that you do not have a timeline you have to meet in regards to your therapeutic goals.

WILL THERAPY BE COVERED BY INSURANCE?
I do not work directly with insurance for a variety of reasons. One primary reason is that I often weave career counseling and leadership counseling into my sessions. This type of counseling is not considered clinical by insurance companies and is not covered by insurance. Due to the fact that I work with private pay clients only, I am able to have more flexibility in my counseling methods (ex: help with college prep or career counseling). This allows me to customize my approach to each individual client. That being said, you can use a Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for counseling or I can provide superbills. Superbills are a summary of your monthly appointments that you can send to your insurance provider to get some reimbursement. Superbills allow you to submit these appointments toward your deductible. It's like working with an out-of-network doctor where you have to file the insurance yourself. I also offer a few sliding scale spots. Find out how to submit a superbill here.

WHAT WILL WE DISCUSS IN THE FIRST SESSION?
In the first session, we will review the practice policies and confidentiality. I will also ask detailed questions to gather information on your background and current challenges. This session will allow us to explore what has brought you to therapy, get to know each other to ensure you feel comfortable, and develop concrete goals moving forward. If you do not want to work together after the first session there is no commitment to continue. I will be happy to provide referrals if you need support in finding another therapist.

WHAT AGE CLIENTS DO YOU WORK WITH?
I work with clients 15 and up. The common theme with the clients I support is that they are coping with high levels of anxiety, past trauma, and perfectionist tendencies. These clients are looking to mitigate anxiety in order to move their personal and professional goals forward. Often these clients are also looking to improve clarity and confidence within their careers to become better leaders.
